So what is a ‘Celebrity Beef’ and can you buy one at McDonalds? A celebrity beef is when 2 normally very high profile celebs (normally singers but not exclusively) have an ongoing feud that spans years and flares up periodically. A classic one would be the Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, those two have been at each other throats for years.
But is it all as it seems? I’ve got a theory about these Beefs and I think that, now bear with me and make sure you’re sitting down, they are all pre-arranged and agreed up front in partnership and are actually #FakeNews.
Take the above mentioned beef, just as Katy is about to launch her new album ‘Witness’ the feud suddenly, and out of nowhere, starts up again so the media is hugely interested and they want to interview her and find out more about it whilst she merrily plugs the album. Next thing you know all is forgiven and they are friends again. Then Taylor wants to release a new album ‘Reputation’ and the beef is back on with the added benefit of being source material for the songs as well. The media go into a frenzy ask her all about the ‘Beef’ and she merrily plugs the album whilst she is talking about it.
All the time both artists are relatively civil to each other and end up talking really positively about their ‘nemesis’ and inevitably we have the “'I have always loved her” (quoting Perry directly) and they make up again. No harm done LOADS of free headlines and media attention that saved literally millions in advertising and BOTH artists make a fortune out of it.
It all feels very staged and choreographed to perfectly coincide with a new song / book / makeup range and can’t be a coincidence.
So next time you hear about a ‘bitter feud’ between 2 celebs, think about the timing, why it has flared up and look behind the headlines to see what it is that they are trying to sell.
