Doctor Who has confirmed Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa is the new Time Lord.

The 29-year-old will become the 14th Doctor on the popular BBC sci-fi series after Jodie Whittaker announced last July she will be leaving the role.

The exciting announcement was teased by returning Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies and Gatwa on Instagram, with a post featuring two heart emojis, a plus symbol and a blue square.

‘There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling,’ Garwa said of his role. ‘A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared.

I Call True: The Gammons are frothing at the mouth over this. And it is ******* hilarious!
Lets give the guy a chance and see how it works out eh, I'm hopeful he'll do a great job!

He could well be exactly what the show needs and I can't believe he is that old

Not seen him in anything but have heard he is a great character actor, so I wish him well. But it's the writing on Dr Who that needs work not necessarily the lead actor.

Time to do a bit of a reboot on Doctor Who, a chance to appeal to a young and new generation of viewers all over again (memory loss for a reboot would also be great to dump some of the baggage that comes with the role)
